Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,”—Deuteronomy 7:9

I continue to treasure the support you as brothers and sisters in Christ have done and continue to do that enables us as a congregation to better care for the members of God’s family here at Grace and in the community.

I continue to also receive encouragement from others within our community who have a genuine concern about the ministry here and ask a question that I have heard from many in the last month or so, “How are you doing?”

I sincerely appreciate their thoughtfulness and concern in asking. But of course, the question can have a wide range of answers. Are they asking about me personally? My family? My ministry to our congregation? Grace Lutheran financially? Spiritually? Attendance-wise? The members of Grace?  Spiritually? Mental health-wise? Or ?????

Since I’m not always sure what they are asking, I have found my best response to be “God is faithful. His Word is 100% reliable.” That is the unshakable truth that answers every question within the range of “How are you doing?”

How am I doing? How is Grace Lutheran Church doing? How are the members of Grace Lutheran doing? Here is the answer:

God is faithful. He promised to us, to ALL believers of ALL time, “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,”

While these words were first spoken by God to the Children of Israel while they wandered in the wilderness. They also speak to us as His Christian church on earth in our day as we wander in the wilderness of this sin-filled world.

1)    What are we to do?  “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God,”

2)    Who is in charge?  “the faithful God”

3)    What is He doing?  “who keeps covenant [promises] and steadfast love”

4)    For whom is He doing it?  “with those who love him and keep his commandments,”

5)    How long will He continue to do it?  “steadfast— to a thousand generations.”

How are you doing? You can share Deuteronomy 7:9 and remember (or also share):

The God we believe in is the only true God, who remains faithful to us, continuing to keep His promises and loving us fully and completely in all our continuing challenges through our Savior Jesus Christ, as those who believe in His saving work for us through the empty cross and grave until the time comes when He returns physically to take us and all who believe in Him to heaven forever.  GOD’S PEACE!

Shalom in Jesus our Risen Messiah,

Pastor Peter M. Peitsch
